Character & Dialogue Writer (Japanese)

We are currently seeking a writer to help us develop Japanese lines and conversational expressions to make character dialogue more natural and engaging.

We are looking for a Character & Conversation Scenario Writer who excels at natural Japanese conversational expressions and understands subtle nuances such as wording, conversational tempo, and emotional expression.

In this position, you will consider the AI character's way of speaking, emotional expression, personality, and how they communicate with users to bring out the character's charm.

Unlike general translation or localization work, this is a creative role where you create expressions that allow a character to speak and react "as that character would."

For example, even when conveying the same content, the wording and conversational tempo change depending on the character's personality, emotions, and relationship with the other person. We are looking for someone who can value such subtle nuances.

Years of professional experience are not required. Rather than years of experience, we prioritize creativity, understanding of characters, and the ability to write natural and engaging dialogue.

We're looking for a Japanese Character & Dialogue Writer with an excellent ear for natural spoken Japanese, conversational rhythm, and the subtle nuances that make characters feel believable.

You'll help shape how our AI characters speak, express emotions, develop personalities, and interact with users.

This isn't a traditional translation or localization role. We're looking for someone who understands what makes a character feel authentic, memorable, and engaging - particularly through dialogue.

The same message can sound completely different depending on a character's personality, emotional state, and relationship with the user. We're looking for someone who understands these differences and can bring them to life through writing.

You don't need years of professional writing experience. What matters most is your creativity, understanding of character personalities, and ability to write natural, compelling conversations.

• Designing and improving character personalities, tones, and speaking styles

• Creating natural Japanese lines and dialogue tailored to each character's personality, emotions, and situation

• Adjusting conversational rhythm, wording, humor, and emotional expression

• Proposing ideas regarding character behavior, such as reactions to users, emotional expressions, and how to build relationships

• Creating dialogue styles and guidelines to express character personalities consistently

• Collaborating with overseas creative and product teams

• Reviewing existing character dialogue and improving it into more natural and emotionally rich expressions

• Develop and refine character personalities, voices, and speaking styles.

• Write natural, engaging Japanese dialogue that reflects different personalities, emotions, and conversational situations.

• Refine conversational rhythm, tone, humor, and emotional expression.

• Help define how characters respond, express themselves, and build connections with users.

• Create dialogue guidelines to ensure consistency in character personalities and communication styles.

• Collaborate with our international creative and product teams to continuously improve character experiences.

• Review and refine existing character conversations to make them feel more natural, authentic, and emotionally engaging.

We initially plan to collaborate on an outsourcing (freelance) basis.

Flexible remote work is possible. We will discuss the specific scope of work and working hours during the selection process.

If it becomes a good collaboration for both parties, we are also considering long-term ongoing engagement.

We'll start with a freelance collaboration, with the potential for a longer-term partnership.

The role is fully remote, with flexible working arrangements. We'll discuss the expected workload and scope of work during the hiring process.

You don't need a traditional professional portfolio - we're equally interested in independent projects that demonstrate your creativity, sense of character, and ability to write natural Japanese conversations.
