About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Section Engineer to join our Regional Civils team, working closely with our Power T&D team on our Apollo Substation project in Bridgwater.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role on a major power infrastructure project, supporting the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions within a complex construction environment. You'll work closely with our project, engineering and construction teams to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required technical standards.

As a Section Engineer, you will take responsibility for providing engineering support across your allocated section of the project. You'll be involved throughout the construction process, from planning and setting out through to completion, ensuring that works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, specifications and programme requirements.

What you'll be doing

As a section Engineer you will:

  • Provide technical and engineering support to the project delivery team.

  • Manage and monitor engineering activities within your allocated section.

  • Review drawings, specifications and technical information, identifying any issues or discrepancies.

  • Undertake setting out and dimensional control using appropriate surveying equipment.

  • Ensure works are constructed in accordance with approved designs, specifications and quality requirements.

  • Produce and maintain accurate site records, inspection and test plans and quality documentation.

  • Work closely with Site Managers, Sub Agents, Design Managers and subcontractors to resolve technical issues.

  • Assist with the preparation and review of RAMS and construction methodologies.

Who we're looking for

You will have the following

  • A relevant engineering qualification or equivalent experience.

  • Previous experience working in a site-based engineering role.

  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, engineering principles and quality requirements.

  • Experience with setting out and surveying.

  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • A proactive approach to problem solving and delivery.

  • A strong commitment to health, safety and quality.

  • Experience working collaboratively with construction, design and commercial teams.
