The role

About the role

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is delivering the Skye 132kV Reinforcement Project, a major programme of energy infrastructure works that will strengthen Scotland's electricity network for the future. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong civil engineering background to lead the delivery of significant civils packages across the project.

This role has a clear civils bias and will oversee the safe and successful delivery of complex construction activities including earthworks, reinforced concrete structures, access roads, drainage, foundations and associated infrastructure works that support the wider transmission network development. Working closely with the Construction Director and wider project leadership team, you will be responsible for programme delivery, site operations, resource management, safety, quality and commercial performance across your area of responsibility.

Based at our Fort Augustus project hub, this is an opportunity to join one of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects, leading multidisciplinary teams in a challenging and rewarding construction environment. Full lodge and subsistence arrangements are available for candidates working away from home.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Construction Director, you'll have responsibility for the safe, efficient and successful delivery of a significant section of works on one of the UK's most important transmission infrastructure projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading all aspects of project delivery with safety as the primary focus.

  • Managing Construction Managers, Works Managers and wider site delivery teams.

  • Driving programme performance, productivity and delivery against project milestones.

  • Ensuring labour, plant, materials and subcontract resources are effectively planned and mobilised.

  • Developing construction methodologies, RAMS, quality plans, ITPs and delivery programmes.

  • Monitoring project performance, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions where required.

  • Working closely with commercial teams to manage project budgets, opportunities, risks and change.

  • Building strong relationships with customers, stakeholders, subcontractors and supply chain partners.

  • Ensuring robust engineering, quality and compliance standards are maintained throughout construction.

  • Producing regular project reports and updates for senior leadership and client stakeholders.

  • Promoting a collaborative, high-performance culture across the project team.

Who we're looking for

We're seeking an experienced project leader with a strong background delivering large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

You will ideally have:

  • Civil Engineering qualification at ONC, HNC, HND or Degree level.

  • At least 8 years' relevant industry experience.

  • Valid CSCS Managers Black Card.

  • Significant experience delivering heavy civil engineering, earthworks, highways, utilities or industrial infrastructure projects.

  • Strong understanding of construction management, programme delivery and engineering controls.

  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary site teams.

  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of NEC contracts and change management principles.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Membership of a relevant professional institution is desirable.
