About the role

Help shape a safer, more sustainable future with Painter Brothers

Join our Hereford team as a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor and play an important part in protecting our people while supporting the delivery of the UK's vital energy infrastructure.

As demand for overhead line towers and substation structures continues to grow, so does our team. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your HS&E expertise to a purpose-led manufacturing environment where innovation, collaboration and Zero Harm are at the heart of everything we do.

This role is based in our Steel Factory in Hereford.

What you'll be doing

You'll provide practical, trusted health, safety and environmental advice across Painter Brothers, helping the business meet-and wherever possible exceed-operational requirements.

  • Support the delivery of the UK HS&E Strategy.

  • Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the business unit's Zero Harm and Sustainability Action Plans at business and project level.

  • Help deliver HS&E key performance indicators across projects and the wider business.

  • Support work-winning teams by developing high-quality, innovative HS&E responses for bids, proposals and PQQs.

  • Provide expert support for investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses in line with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company requirements.

  • Work with operational management to develop local, risk-based Service Level Agreements for each project and review them quarterly.

  • Carry out regular site inspections in line with project risk matrices.

  • Produce formal reports through the Project Portal, recording planned and unplanned HS&E inspections and reviewing performance against the UK HS&E Regulatory Framework and UK Business Management System requirements.

  • Review health and safety risk management arrangements to ensure that risks and opportunities are identified and appropriate actions are being implemented.

Who we're looking for

You'll bring a proactive, collaborative approach and the confidence to influence positive HS&E behaviours at every level. You'll also have:

  • A relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ, Degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification. We may also consider candidates with a certificate-level qualification who are working towards one of these qualifications and have relevant on-site experience.

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH, or active progress towards it.

  • The ability to influence others and promote a positive HS&E culture.

  • Competence in incident investigation.

  • A strong understanding of the UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.

  • The ability to prepare clear, formal reports on HS&E topics.

  • Project planning and project management capability.

  • A commitment to continual learning and applying your expertise to add distinctive value for customers and Balfour Beatty.
