Skills
Nice to have
The role
Balfour Beatty is a leading provider of power transmission and distribution infrastructure, delivering the critical infrastructure needed to support the UK's transition to a more secure, resilient and lower-carbon energy system.
We are now looking for a Delivery Director to join the leadership team delivering the Skye Reinforcement Project, one of Scotland's most important electricity network upgrades.
The programme will reinforce the high-voltage network between the Isle of Skye and Fort Augustus, strengthening security of supply for communities across the Hebrides and West Highlands and supporting the transition towards renewable electricity. The works span remote and technically challenging terrain and involve major overhead line, underground cabling and associated infrastructure.
Reporting to the Project Director, you will provide senior leadership across a major element of the programme, helping shape delivery strategy, build the team and drive the project safely and successfully from pre-construction through to completion.
This is an opportunity to take a leading role on a major UK infrastructure programme while joining a business at the heart of the transformation of Britain's electricity network.
What you'll do
As Delivery Director, you will:
- Provide leadership and accountability for the safe, predictable and efficient delivery of a major workstream within the Skye programme.
- Support the Project Director as a key member of the operational leadership team, deputising where appropriate.
- Lead the project through pre-construction, mobilisation and delivery, establishing the teams, plans and controls required for successful execution.
- Build and lead a high-performing, collaborative and inclusive multidisciplinary delivery team.
- Champion Balfour Beatty's Zero Harm culture through visible leadership across health, safety and wellbeing.
- Take ownership of programme performance, ensuring delivery against agreed scope, schedule, budget and quality requirements.
- Lead performance across project controls, commercial management, change, risk and opportunity.
- Provide senior oversight of technical and engineering delivery, ensuring effective management of interfaces, buildability and assurance.
- Develop strong, trusted relationships with SSEN Transmission, delivery partners, the supply chain and key stakeholders.
- Drive collaboration and performance across the supply chain, with a focus on productivity, quality, sustainability and value.
- Maintain robust governance, reporting and assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide leadership in an exceptionally complex delivery environment, including remote locations, challenging terrain, environmental considerations and significant engineering interfaces.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an accomplished infrastructure leader who can combine strategic leadership with hands-on delivery experience on major, complex programmes.
You'll bring:
- Significant experience leading the delivery of major construction, engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience operating at Delivery Director, Project Director or equivalent senior leadership level.
- A strong track record of delivering complex programmes safely, predictably and against demanding commercial and programme objectives.
- Experience leading large, multidisciplinary project teams and supply chains.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including contract delivery, risk management, change control and governance.
- Experience working within complex customer and stakeholder environments, with the credibility to build trusted relationships at a senior level.
- Strong programme management capability and a clear focus on delivery certainty and performance.
- The leadership skills to build teams, create clarity and maintain momentum within a large and complex programme.
Experience within Power Transmission & Distribution would be highly advantageous, particularly across overhead lines or underground cabling. We are also interested in senior leaders from other major linear infrastructure environments who can demonstrate the scale, complexity and leadership capability required for the programme
