Who we are
We're an award-winning Tech Consultancy, focused on Quality Engineering, on a mission to become the UK's #1.
What we do
"Champion and Engineer Quality and Software". Over the past 6 years, we've shaped and transformed our offering so that passion, precision, and attention to every minuscule detail is baked into everything we do. Born from a desire to bring automation expertise to our current and prospective clients, we've continued to evolve our offering to help organisations build quality into every stage of software delivery.
Why us?
Proudly certified as a "Great Place to Work", 2i are the chosen employer of around 400 Quality Engineers, and we're continuing our growth! We recently announced our eight-figure private equity funding injection as we aim to increase our revenue by more than £50m in the coming years. That is where you come in...
The opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Senior Performance Test Engineer to join our team, bringing expertise across performance and non-functional testing alongside hands-on automation experience.
You'll play a key role in defining and delivering performance testing strategies across complex, cloud-hosted systems, helping ensure applications can meet the scalability, reliability and availability requirements expected of them.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll design and execute a wide range of performance tests, investigate bottlenecks across application, infrastructure, database and network layers and use your findings to make practical recommendations that improve system performance and resilience.
You'll also have the opportunity to bring performance testing further into the development lifecycle by building automated performance testing solutions and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines. Working closely with developers, infrastructure teams and other engineers, you'll help establish performance testing as an integral part of modern software delivery rather than something that happens towards the end of a project.
Alongside your technical contribution, you'll provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers and testers, help shape performance testing standards and contribute to wider Quality Engineering practices.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone with significant commercial experience in performance and non-functional testing, who enjoys interrogating complex systems to understand how they behave under different conditions.
You'll have a solid understanding of performance testing methodologies and be comfortable designing and executing tests including load, stress, spike, endurance, volume, capacity and resilience testing.
We're looking for someone who can combine this specialist performance expertise with a broader engineering mindset. You'll understand automation, CI/CD and cloud infrastructure and be comfortable working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and resolve performance issues.
You'll also have the technical confidence to analyse performance from multiple perspectives, understand where bottlenecks may exist and communicate your findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You'll need to be...
- A performance testing specialist. You'll have significant commercial experience in performance and non-functional testing, with a solid understanding of load, stress, spike, endurance/soak, volume, capacity and resilience testing.
- An expert in JMeter. You'll have in depth, hands-on experience using Apache JMeter to design, develop and execute performance tests across complex applications.
- An extensive background with automation. You'll have experience developing automated performance testing solutions and reusable automation assets using one or more languages such as Java, Python or JavaScript.
- Experienced with AWS. You'll have strong practical experience working with AWS services including EC2, ECS, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, Auto Scaling and Load Balancers, and understand how cloud architecture influences application performance and scalability.
- Experienced with Linux/Unix. You'll be confident troubleshooting Linux/Unix environments and investigating performance issues across application and infrastructure layers.
- Experienced with CI/CD. You'll understand how to integrate automated performance testing into Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines, helping bring performance validation further into the development lifecycle.
- Data and metrics driven. You'll be comfortable analysing performance metrics and using monitoring and observability tooling to identify bottlenecks and understand system behaviour.
- Experienced with distributed systems. You'll have worked with APIs, microservices and distributed architectures, understanding the challenges they introduce from a performance perspective.
- Comfortable with monitoring and observability. Experience with tools such as Grafana and Prometheus will be valuable when analysing system performance and identifying bottlenecks.
- A technical problem solver. You'll enjoy investigating complex performance issues across application, infrastructure, database and network layers and turning your findings into clear recommendations.
- A technical leader. You'll be comfortable mentoring engineers and testers, contributing to testing strategy and establishing performance testing standards and best practices.
- A confident communicator. You'll be able to influence technical decisions across multidisciplinary teams and clearly communicate performance risks, findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in Agile environments. You'll understand modern engineering practices and how performance testing fits into an Agile software delivery lifecycle.
It would be great if you also have...
- Experience working with Docker and containerised environments.
- An understanding of Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Exposure to security and penetration testing concepts.
- Knowledge of observability tooling and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
What we can offer you...
- Leadership pathways tailored for your personal and professional learning and development within 2i, giving clear direction for your career with us.
- 26 days of annual leave + the option to buy and sell holiday (up to 5 days).
- Private Health Care + access to other mental health and wellbeing services including: Gym Memberships, Counselling, Cycle to Work Schemes + many more.
- Individual and Company related performance bonus up to 10% annually.
- Flexible working in a hybrid environment across the UK!
What if you are a partial fit?
Curious? We want to hear from you!
We don't believe in the "perfect" hire. What we do believe in is the benefits of creating a team built of different perspectives, backgrounds, career paths and ways of working. What we value most are team players who are eager to take their growth into their own hands and utilise the people around them.
Please note that we cannot accept applicants who require visa sponsorship. We also cannot accept applicants who do not currently possess active SC (Security Clearance).
