We will be growing our package of benefits over time.

The role

What you'll do

  • Own the Platform Software pillar. Lead the software and XR engineers, plus cybersecurity, infrastructure and deployment engineers as they join.
  • Ship the Surgical OS SDK. This is our commercial unlock: modular, clean and easy for a scope OEM to integrate.
  • Own the hub UI. The clinician-facing interface for case management, 3D planning and intraoperative dashboards, deployed at our anchor hospital.
  • Run the edge stack. NVIDIA edge hardware, sub-20 ms latency, over-the-air updates, federated learning. Partner with Infrastructure on architecture.
  • Drive cybersecurity. Hospital deployment demands it. Lead the path to SOC 2 Type II.
  • Partner across pillars. AI ships models; you ship the rails they run on. Hardware ships boards; you ship the software that talks to them.

What we're looking for

  • Strong software engineering leadership. You have led teams of four or more and shipped production systems.
  • SDK and platform experience. You have built developer-facing or partner-facing APIs and SDKs that someone else integrated against.
  • Real-time, low-latency systems in C++, Rust or similar.
  • Edge or on-premise deployment experience, ideally on NVIDIA edge platforms.
  • Cybersecurity literacy. SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001: you know what good looks like.
  • Regulated environment experience (medical, automotive, aerospace, finance) is a strong plus.

Who you are

  • A builder. Hands-on with the code when it matters; not afraid of legacy debugging or system design.
  • You care about the surgeon and the OEM. Two distinct users; you build for both.
  • Strategic but tactical. You can write the SDK roadmap and unblock a late-night integration issue.
  • You thrive in ambiguity. The Surgical OS does not exist yet. You are excited to define it.
  • London-based, or able to work in person three or more days per week.

Why join XRlabs?

In their own words

About the company & team

At XRlabs, we are building the Surgical Intelligence platform, and the Platform Software pillar is the surface that surgeons see and that OEMs integrate against. Hub UI, OEM SDK, edge deployment, cybersecurity: it all lives here. We are looking for a Head of Platform Software to lead it.

If you have shipped SDKs that partners build on, run production systems in regulated environments, and care about the craft of software in safety-critical contexts, this is your role.
