Job description
Birmingham is at the heart of one of the UK's most ambitious regeneration programmes, with the potential to unlock billions in investment, create homes and jobs, and deliver lasting economic growth.
But ambition alone won't transform a city. Delivery will.
That's why the Birmingham East Mayoral Development Corporation (BEMDC) has been created.
Working with Birmingham City Council, the Mayor of the West Midlands and public and private sector partners, BEMDC will bring together the powers, investment and expertise to unlock complex sites, overcome barriers and accelerate regeneration.
From the Sports Quarter and Birmingham Knowledge Quarter to Digbeth, Curzon, Smithfield and the wider city centre, the scale of opportunity is immense. Delivering it demands commercial expertise, decisive leadership and the confidence to challenge conventional approaches.
This is where you come in.
We're appointing three Non-Executive Directors to bring independent judgement, commercial expertise and strategic challenge, helping turn Birmingham's ambitions into viable, investable and deliverable projects.
As a Board member, you'll help
- Provide strategic oversight and challenge - ensuring robust investment decisions, strong governance, effective risk management and clear delivery plans.
- Shape investment and accelerate development - shaping priorities, identifying funding opportunities and mobilising public and private capital.
- Turn complex opportunities into deliverable projects - challenging proposals, overcoming financial, infrastructure and delivery barriers.
- Build confidence and partnerships - strengthening relationships with investors, developers, government, landowners and infrastructure partners.
- Deliver lasting public value - ensuring regeneration creates homes, jobs, better connectivity and sustainable growth for Birmingham's communities.
What we're looking for.
We want to build a Board with the experience, commercial credibility and determination to drive delivery at pace.
We're particularly seeking individuals with expertise in investment and development, bringing:
- Senior leadership or Board-level experience, with independent judgement and the ability to influence strategic decisions.
- The ability to navigate complexity, balancing commercial ambition with financial stewardship, risk management and public accountability.
- Credibility and influence, with the networks and relationship-building skills to unite public and private sector partners.
- Experience of at least one of the following areas:
- Unlocking commercial and investment opportunities, including capital allocation, financial structuring, development viability and attracting investment.
- Complex regeneration, spanning land, planning, infrastructure, partnerships and major project delivery.
- Employment and skills, including creating good quality jobs, attracting and retaining talent and connecting local communities to jobs and opportunity.
Above all, we're looking for people who combine ambition with realism, commercial acumen with a public-service ethos, and the determination to turn plans into progress.
Why join BEMDC?
These are three rare opportunities to shape one of the UK's most significant regeneration delivery organisations in its formative years.
Working alongside influential leaders and partners, you'll help turn major investment into new neighbourhoods, better infrastructure, thriving businesses, more jobs and stronger communities. Unlocking the potential of Birmingham and growing its prosperity for the future.
The ambition is clear. The opportunity is real. Now we need three exceptional leaders to help deliver it.
