What we're looking for

We are seeking a collaborative and motivated M&E Project Manager with experience of leading construction projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams through the full project lifecycle.

You'll bring a practical understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering, together with the ability to manage programmes, budgets, procurement, risk and changing project priorities.

To be successful, you'll be a clear communicator who can build constructive relationships, bring people together around shared outcomes and make well-informed decisions. You'll also have a sound awareness of construction health and safety responsibilities and experience of working within contractual and commercial controls.

You will be comfortable leading several concurrent projects, delegating effectively, planning your own workload and supporting the performance and development of others.

Ideally, you will have substantial experience in delivering M&E construction projects in the water or utilities sector and be educated or experienced in a mechanical, electrical or related engineering discipline. Familiarity with CDM requirements, NEC contracts and industry standards would be beneficial. Project management training or qualifications and professional registration or a commitment to continued professional development are desirable.

The role

We're looking for an M&E Project Manager to join our in-house mechanical and electrical engineering and construction team, leading the safe, sustainable and effective delivery of mechanical and electrical projects from design through to commissioning and handover.

We are welcoming applicants for a position in the south and east of the region, to support our growing programme of work, centred around our regional team office in Salisbury.

What you'll do

You'll join an experienced and supportive team of project managers, engineers and construction professionals. You'll take responsibility for a varied portfolio of M&E projects, leading your project teams while receiving support from wider specialist functions.

Your primary duty will be to lead the M&E project management requirements of capital schemes, ensuring each project meets the engineering and construction needs of the business and is delivered safely, to a high standard, and within agreed time and cost constraints.

You'll provide day-to-day leadership for project engineers, site managers, suppliers and contractors, coordinating their contributions and maintaining clear accountability for safety, quality, programme, cost and project outcomes.

The role is crucial in bringing together design, commercial, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational requirements. It will involve office and site-based working, with regular communication across internal teams, the client, consultants and the supply chain.

Some of your day-to-day duties will include:

  • leading M&E projects from design development through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover
  • developing and maintaining project programmes, budgets, cashflow forecasts and resourcing plans, while monitoring performance and taking action where required
  • coordinating project engineers, site teams, designers, quantity surveyors, suppliers and subcontractors to deliver agreed project outcomes
  • ensuring projects are planned and delivered with safety, quality, time and cost at the forefront of decision-making
  • managing the procurement of mechanical and electrical equipment, materials and subcontract services to achieve best value and meet programme requirements
  • working with commercial colleagues to manage contracts, forecasts, change control, early warnings and compensation events in line with NEC requirements
  • managing project risks, resolving technical and site issues, and responding effectively to changes in scope, programme or operational constraints
  • coordinating design information and ensuring solutions comply with relevant legislation, WIMES, company standards and project requirements
  • building positive relationships with clients, operational teams and other stakeholders, managing expectations and maintaining clear communication throughout delivery
  • reporting on project progress, cost, risk and performance to the Programme Management team
  • supporting, guiding and developing project team members while promoting collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement
  • ensuring project documentation, operation and maintenance information, handover requirements and close-out activities are completed to the required standard.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
