The role

The Environmental Change Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Oxford Martin Electrification Accelerator, a University-wide research programme examining the pace, costs and consequences of electrification across heat, transport and industry. Bringing together expertise from across the University of Oxford, the programme aims to provide rigorous, independent evidence to inform decisions by governments, regulators and industry.

Working with Dr Jan Rosenow, Director of the Oxford Martin Electrification Accelerator, you will play a central role in delivering Work Package 1, which provides the quantitative evidence base for the wider programme. Your research will focus on assessing electrification trends across countries, sectors and technologies, examining the factors influencing progress and developing robust, comparable datasets to support policy and industry decision-making.

The role combines quantitative research, data analysis and interdisciplinary collaboration. You will assemble, clean and analyse complex datasets from statistical agencies, energy system operators and industry sources, develop reproducible analytical methods, and contribute to research publications and policy-facing outputs. You will also collaborate with colleagues across the Accelerator's partner departments and engage with external organisations to ensure findings are relevant, accessible and useful.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment, with opportunities to shape the direction of Work Package 1, develop an independent publication record and contribute to research informing the transition to low-carbon energy systems.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to evidence-based research on electrification and support the development of practical insights for accelerating the transition to low-carbon energy across multiple sectors.

This post is offered on a full time, fixed-term basis for 3 years from start date.
