INTERNAL VACANCY
This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Support and Wellbeing Team, part of the Student Access and Support Division, as a Support and Wellbeing Manager, linking closely with students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
This is a challenging role, managing a team of staff (4x Support and Wellbeing Officers and 1x Support and Wellbeing Practitioner) who provide frontline wellbeing support to students as part of a wider wellbeing network. This role will be based at various campuses, given that the team supports students located at University Park, the Medical School and the Sutton Bonington campuses.
The Support and Wellbeing Team is split into small sub-teams based around academic faculties and/or campus locations. Students can be referred into the Support and Wellbeing team via academic or support staff or may choose to seek support themselves and self-refer. Our support can be accessed in a variety of ways with students being advised via face-to-face appointments, video calls, telephone appointments, or by email.
An important part of the role will be leading a team who advise students with difficult or challenging wellbeing circumstances, supporting them to follow the relevant university policies and processes and access specialist wellbeing services. With responsibility for supervising and developing your team, you will create a supportive environment that enables staff to perform effectively and develop professionally. You will also provide some direct wellbeing support to students yourself, including facilitating stage 1 Support to Study cases linked to students in your faculty.
As a member of the wider Support and Wellbeing management team, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the services, identifying opportunities for improvement and will help to shape and innovative approaches to student wellbeing support which are inclusive and student focused.
The role holder will provide leadership, guidance and case oversight to staff managing complex student wellbeing matters. The post holder will build and maintaining strong networks and relationships with Senior Tutors, Personal Tutors and other colleagues across the University and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Through the fostering of these collaborative relationships and sharing expertise and best practice, you will ensure the team is equipped to confidently deliver effective and joined-up support for students with complex needs and concerns.
You will be a confident, knowledgeable and compassionate professional with extensive experience of supporting individuals through complex and sensitive wellbeing issues. This role would especially suit someone with experience of providing specialist advice, guidance or case oversight who is looking to take the next step into people management, as well as those with existing management experience. You will have a degree or relevant experience, knowledge of Higher Education academic culture and have previous advice work experience, or equivalent.
What we offer:
- A friendly, diverse, and supportive working environment
- A hybrid working arrangement with 80% of the working expected to on campus
- Generous holiday entitlement of 30 days (or pro rata) plus standard bank holidays and five university closure days including closure between Christmas and New Year.
- We are committed to staff development through the provision of training, continued support, and career progression opportunities
- You will have access to a range of benefits and rewards, including fitness and health facilities, staff discounts, travel schemes and many more. To find out more about what we can offer you, follow the link to our benefits website
We welcome applications from everyone and value the varied perspectives and experiences that a diverse team can bring. We are particularly keen to receive applications from people who are currently underrepresented in wellbeing support in the UK, such as racially minoritized backgrounds.
This position is offered on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. Hours are part-time (31.25 hrs per week) spread across a minimum of four days which will also usually involve a minimum of 3 days per week on campus with one day a week home working. Job share arrangements may be considered.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager (and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role).
Please contact Matt Orton matt.orton@nottingham.ac.uk if you have further questions about this role. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
