Background
Academic leads and line manager: Dr Jeffry Hogg
Academic team
You will be part of Bright, our team lead by Professor Alastair Denniston, Chair of Regulatory Science and currently chairing the national commission on the regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare. Bright is nationally and internationally recognised for its expertise in the evaluation, regulation and implementation of AI in health and care and hosts national infrastructure supporting regulation and innovation with AI health technologies. Our flagship educational offering (MSc AI Implementation (Healthcare)) is the first of its kind in the UK and we have partnered with the NHS Digital Academy and NHS England's AI Ambassador's Network to deliver virtual foundational AI training across the NHS.
The post holder will join Bright at an exciting time following the completion of the first year of the MSc and external funding secured to grow our postgraduate education portfolio with three new modules regarding AI in cancer diagnostics and global software medical device regulation. The team is also highly active in research and policy, with an established track record for high impact research outputs. This post will present opportunities to engage with some of these research projects where they align with the post holder's interests and goals for professional development.
The post holder will teach and advise postgraduate or CPD students within their own subject area and within established teaching programmes concerning the evaluation, regulation and implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in health and care. You will be supported and supervised by senior staff with ultimate responsibility for the design, delivery and assessment of the teaching programme(s). You will work closely with our wide network of cross-sector guest faculty from public bodies (e.g. MHRA, NHS England, NICE), Industry (e.g. Apple, Microsoft, software medical device SMEs) and academics (across and beyond University of Birmingham). Through these relationships you will help to curate and deliver high-quality learning experiences for students, drawing on expertise and delivery capacity from across our wider academic network. You will receive support from senior academics within Bright with a wide range of backgrounds in practice and research.
The University is committed to safeguarding and we promote safe recruitment practice, therefore all associated pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. Due to the nature of the work undertaken in this role all successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory DBS clearance prior to appointment.

Use of AI in applications: We want to understand your genuine interest in the role and for the written elements of your application to accurately reflect your own communication style. Applications that rely too heavily on AI tools can appear generic and lack the detail we need to assess your skills and experience. Such applications will unlikely be progressed to interview.
