Every day, patients arrive with chest pain, arrhythmias, heart failure symptoms and complex cardiac presentations where expert clinical judgement can make the difference between admission and safe discharge. At University Hospitals Birmingham, our ACP-led cardiology service puts you at the heart of those decisions.
As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner within the Cardiology Directorate, you will work autonomously across acute, elective and chronic cardiac pathways, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients alongside consultant cardiologists, specialist nurses, physiologists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
A key feature of the role is our established ACP-led direct-access cardiology trolley service at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, providing rapid specialist review for patients referred from the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Units.
With strong consultant support, regular teaching and opportunities to develop specialist and procedural expertise, this is an exciting opportunity to influence patient pathways and the future of advanced clinical practice in cardiology.
As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you will provide autonomous, evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management for patients presenting with a broad range of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions.
You will play a key role within the ACP-led direct-access cardiology trolley service, rapidly reviewing referrals from the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Units, initiating appropriate investigations and treatment plans, supporting timely clinical decision-making and helping to prevent avoidable hospital admissions.
Working collaboratively with consultant cardiologists and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will contribute across emergency cardiac assessment, interventional cardiology, heart failure, outpatient and longer-term cardiac care.
Beyond direct clinical practice, you will provide leadership and clinical expertise, support and supervise developing Advanced Clinical Practitioners, contribute to multidisciplinary education and participate in service improvement, audit, quality initiatives and research.
You will be encouraged to develop specialist interests and procedural skills while helping shape safe, effective and patient-centred cardiology pathways across the Directorate.
Please note for a specific detailed job description for this vacancy please see attached job description.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
