Secondary Chargehand - Major UK Energy Project

• Location: North Scotland - project location confidential
• Contract: 5 months, with potential for extension
• Rate: £38 - £43 per hour, outside IR35

Turner Lovell is recruiting on behalf of a leading electrical engineering contractor delivering major UK electricity transmission and renewable energy projects.

We are seeking an experienced Secondary Chargehand to support the delivery of a major HV substation project in Scotland.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in secondary electrical systems, protection and control, with experience coordinating wirepeople and electrical installation activities on HV substation projects.

Duties

• Supervise and coordinate a team of HV Wirepeople carrying out secondary electrical installation works.
• Coordinate daily activities and ensure works are completed safely and to programme.
• Oversee installation of control, protection and relay panels, multicore cabling and associated secondary systems.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and project documentation.
• Monitor workmanship and ensure installation is completed to required standards.
• Support the Site Supervisor/Manager with daily progress, issues and resource requirements.
• Ensure RAMS, permits, toolbox talks and site procedures are followed.
• Identify and report defects, installation issues and material requirements.
• Liaise with the wider electrical, commissioning and site teams.
• Promote strong safety, quality and housekeeping standards across the team.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Chargehand, Electrical Chargehand, Working Chargehand or Senior Wireperson on HV substation projects.
• Strong experience with secondary systems, protection and control wiring.
• HV substation experience, ideally 132kV - 400kV.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Experience coordinating and directing electrical installation teams.
• CCNSG / CSCS Safety Passport.
• Good understanding of current wiring regulations and safe systems of work.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, H&S-critical environment.
