Headline

Do you take pride in a job done properly?

Behind every comfortable recovery, every calm appointment and every great first impression... there's a spotless room, fresh linen and a team who care about the little details.

And that's where you come in.

Join our Housekeeping team as a Housekeeping Assistant and help create a clean, safe and welcoming environment for thousands of patients, visitors and colleagues every year. No two days are quite the same, and the difference you make is seen (and felt) by everyone who walks through our doors.

A little about the role

In Housekeeping, we see ourselves as part of every patient's care. A clean, comfortable room is one of the first things our patients notice, and keeping our hospital safe and hygienic is something we take really seriously, especially in our clinical areas.

As one of our Housekeeping Assistants, you'll start each shift at the Patient Services Office, where your Supervisor will brief you on the areas you're looking after that day. That could be patient bedrooms, consulting rooms, clinical units, waiting rooms, staff areas or offices and you'll get to know the different buildings across the Clinic. We'll give you full training on our cleaning procedures, colour-coding and infection control standards, including how we look after special and isolation areas, so you'll always know exactly what good looks like.

It's not just about cleaning. You'll help consultants, secretaries and ward staff with requests like restocking supplies or bringing extra linen, and you'll lend a hand to our Catering and Portering colleagues when they need it. We're a team that pulls together, and a friendly smile goes a long way, with patients and with each other.

What you'll be doing

  • Clean and tidy patient bedrooms, consulting rooms, clinical areas, waiting rooms, toilets, staff rooms and offices to a consistently high standard
  • Follow our cleaning schedules, Standard Operating Procedures and Infection Control guidelines, using the right materials and equipment for each area
  • Apply our colour-coding policy, including for special and isolation areas (full training provided)
  • Respond to requests from consultants, secretaries and ward staff - such as replenishing stock and supplying extra linen
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and linen, and keep stores and housekeeping rooms clean and organised
  • Support our Catering and Portering teams when needed
  • Clean your equipment at the end of each shift and report any faults to your Supervisor
  • Hand in lost property and report any risks or incidents to your Supervisor
  • Complete your mandatory training, including Fire Safety, Manual Handling, Health and Safety and COSHH
  • Respect patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times

What are we looking for?

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, can-do approach to your work
  • Good communication skills and a team player mindset
  • A good level of spoken English, and the ability to read and write basic English
  • A good understanding of safety and hygiene practices
  • A smart appearance, a cheerful nature and an organised way of working
  • A willingness to learn and to work across any of our buildings

It would be great (but not essential) if you also have previous experience in cleaning, catering or customer care, knowledge of infection control procedures, an NVQ Level 1, GCSE (or equivalent) English and basic computer skills.

What you'll be part of

Our Housekeeping team sits within Patient Services, and we're the people who keep the whole Clinic looking and feeling its best - from patient bedrooms and consulting rooms to clinical units, waiting areas and everything in between. We work closely with our Catering and Portering colleagues, ward teams and consultants' offices, and we're a friendly, hands-on team who look out for each other.

At The London Clinic, everything starts with our people. Whether you're at the bedside or behind the scenes, you're part of something bigger - making a real difference to patients and to each other, every day.

What makes us different is what we do with that success - we reinvest it back into our services, our technology, and, most importantly, our people. From developing, innovative, new ways of delivering care to supporting continuous learning and career progression, we're always looking ahead.

Based in our main hospital, you'll be part of a team delivering care across 234 beds, 10 theatres, and a 13-bed intensive care unit - working alongside over 1300 colleagues, in specialist teams, combined with over 700 consultant surgeons and physicians, we are all united by a shared commitment to high-quality, compassionate care.
