Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies, from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups, use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe's legal team works on complex technical and legal issues to help protect our growing business. In this role, you'll join the legal team supporting Stripe's People team and other business partners across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

What you'll do

As Employment Counsel, you'll advise our People team and other business partners on employment law across EMEA and proactively manage employment-related risks.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with our People team to provide subject-matter expertise on employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, compensation and benefits, leaves of absence, people data privacy, internal investigations, working time, and HR best practices
  • Proactively review employment policies to support legal compliance and consistency with best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support and maintain employment compliance
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements, including offer letters, contractor agreements, and vendor agreements
  • Handle pre-litigation and litigation matters
  • Monitor developments in employment, AI, and data protection law and advise on developments that may affect Stripe

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 4+ years of specialist, post-qualification employment law experience at a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Qualification to practice law in Ireland or England and Wales
  • Ability to analyse employment law matters of varying complexity, exercise sound judgment, and make well-reasoned decisions amid ambiguity and incomplete information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders while maintaining discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Strong organisational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple long- and short-term workstreams, collaborate across teams, and support international employment law matters outside EMEA when needed
Preferred qualifications
  • In-house experience or experience advising technology clients as external counsel
  • Experience advising on employee representative bodies, works councils, and European works councils
  • Experience advising on jurisdictions outside Ireland and the United Kingdom
