The role
There's a lot happening behind the scenes to make sure renewable and flexible generation assets can successfully participate in Capacity Market and system services - and that's where this role comes in.
Working within our wider Portfolio Optimisation team, you'll take responsibility for coordinating the day-to-day activities that keep our assets qualified, compliant and ready to participate across Capacity Market and system services schemes in Great Britain and Ireland.
Supporting more than 2GW of renewable and flexible generation assets, you'll work with colleagues across development, operations, finance, commercial and regulatory teams to make sure applications, qualification activity, contractual requirements and ongoing obligations are delivered accurately and on time.
This isn't primarily a trading or portfolio optimisation role. It's about understanding market requirements, getting the detail right, bringing the right people together and making sure we deliver on our commitments.
It's a great opportunity for someone who already has some exposure to electricity markets, regulation, energy operations or commercial processes and is ready to build their experience in a broad role within renewable energy.
What you'll do
- Coordinate qualification, application and auction activities across Capacity Market and system services schemes, making sure submissions are accurate and delivered to deadline.
- Monitor ongoing contractual, regulatory and operational requirements, helping ensure assets remain compliant and contracted revenues are protected.
- Work across development, operational, regulatory and commercial teams to gather information, resolve issues and keep activities moving.
- Maintain clear governance, reporting and documentation, ensuring activities are well controlled and audit ready.
- Support the identification and resolution of commercial and compliance risks, continually improving how activities are delivered while building your knowledge of Capacity Market, system services and wider electricity-market arrangements.
How you'll work
Base Location: Perth, Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen, Reading, Belfast or Dublin. You'll be expected to spend at least 50% of your working week from one of these locations, although other SSE Renewables locations may be considered.
You have
You don't need to be a portfolio optimisation specialist, and you don't need to have done this exact role before.
We're particularly interested in people who can bring some of the following:
- Experience working with commercial, contractual, regulatory, compliance or operational processes, ideally within energy, utilities or another regulated environment.
- An understanding of electricity markets, energy regulation, Capacity Market, system/ancillary services or a related area - or relevant experience that gives you a strong foundation to develop this knowledge.
- Experience coordinating activity across different teams and keeping important deliverables on track against fixed deadlines.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through detailed information and understand the implications of getting things right - or wrong.
- Strong organisation and communication skills, with the confidence to take ownership, ask the right questions and follow things through to completion.
