The role

Do you take pride in creating clean, welcoming spaces?

About us

The Science Museum Group is here to inspire futures. As the world's leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with millions of visitors each year.

At Locomotion in Shildon, we're home to an unrivalled collection and are proud of the experience and welcome we provide for everyone who visits. Our Cleaning team plays an important part in this, helping to make sure the museum is clean, safe and welcoming from the moment our visitors arrive until the moment they leave.

To support this, we're looking for a Cleaning Assistant to join us on a permanent, part-time basis. This role is based fully on site at Locomotion, working 25 hours per week from 12pm to 5pm, Sunday to Thursday, and is paid at £13.45 per hour.

About the role

As a Cleaning Assistant, you'll clean the museum to a high standard and work closely with colleagues across Locomotion to make sure our spaces are ready for everyone who visits and works here.

You'll also support our Front of House team in delivering an excellent visitor experience, while following the appropriate health and safety procedures to look after yourself and others.

About you

You'll take real pride in doing a great job and bring a reliable, flexible and hard-working approach. You'll be comfortable working to a schedule as part of a close-knit team, with good timekeeping and strong attention to detail.

Previous commercial or domestic cleaning experience would be helpful, particularly experience using cleaning equipment such as floor scrubber dryers, but it isn't essential. We'll provide on-the-job training to help you succeed in the role

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
