Requirements

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new - whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:

Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 10% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.

Please see www.sainsburys.jobs for a range of our benefits (note, length of service and eligibility criteria may apply).

The role

This is a 12-month Secondment/Fixed Term Contract.

Why join us

Joining Sainsbury's as a Procurement Buyer in our Technology Services, Infrastructure and Strategy team means taking ownership of the Data Governance and Information Security category, a high-priority and complex category with significant exposure to our leadership team. You'll have the autonomy to shape category direction, drive commercial value and maintain trusted stakeholder relationships across a high-volume portfolio. With significant career development opportunities and a supportive working environment, you can make a tangible impact while building your procurement career.

What you'll do

You'll take category ownership of the Data Governance and Information Security category, autonomously managing a portfolio of around 30-40 concurrent projects spanning high-volume and high-value requirements. You'll develop and execute category and sourcing strategies for critical security technology solutions, balancing competing stakeholder priorities while keeping multiple complex workstreams moving. Working closely with cross-functional teams and senior leaders, you'll maintain effective stakeholder relationships, lead commercial tenders and negotiations, and ensure compliance with our Procurement Policy.

You'll come into an office (London / Coventry / Manchester) once/twice a month, with the rest of your time working from home.

Who you are

You're an autonomous, commercially minded Procurement Buyer with demonstrable technology procurement and category management experience. You're comfortable managing a substantial portfolio of competing priorities, maintaining productive stakeholder relationships and delivering multiple complex sourcing projects at pace. You do not need to be a cyber security expert, but you will understand technology procurement and be able to apply sound commercial judgement within a complex environment. Technology procurement experience is not essential but would be a distinct advantage, as would experience in confidently presenting recommendations at Director level.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable category management experience, including end-to-end sourcing and commercial negotiation.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously while managing a high-volume portfolio of complex, high-value projects and competing deadlines.

  • Demonstrable ability to maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including senior leaders.

  • Demonstrable analytical capability in evaluating costs and commercial options using data, understanding the value outside of the cost.

  • Proven ability to take ownership of complex requirements and translate them into practical, commercially focused category solutions.
