The role
Role overview
The team
RPC has a highly successful commercial, technology and outsourcing practice (CTO). We are top ranked in Chambers and Legal 500, 2026 for Commercial Contracts and highly ranked for IT and telecoms. We are described as a team that "combines legal excellence with a deep understanding of its clients' industries" (Chambers 2026). We are ambitious for the future and want to grow our market share, particularly in our core sectors of retail, financial services (including insurance), professional services, and technology.
We handle a varied, dynamic and often high-profile workload for clients across a range of sectors but with a particular emphasis on retail, financial services (including insurance), professional services, and technology. In respect of tech, the team acts for a good mix of technology suppliers and customers on systems development and procurement, outsourcings (including IT infrastructure, AD/AM, network and data centre services and BPO outsourcings), software licensing and distribution, cloud computing, AI and open-source issues.
We are a friendly, collaborative team, committed to providing excellence to our clients, whilst caring for our people and investing in their development and progression.
The role
We have been building out our broader financial services practice beyond the firm's strong foundation in insurance, including working for payment systems, fintechs, payments firms, consumer credit, challenger banks and pensions administrators. In addition to financial services, we have a leading (and growing) technology practice working across financial services, the major technology providers and our other clients across sectors.
We are seeking an ambitious Senior Associate to focus on:
- Financial Services (including insurance); and
- Technology.
You will want to focus on advice and transactions at the intersection of technology and the financial services sector. This provides a mix of complex commercial and technology work in a highly regulated environment, whether acting for regulated firms or for suppliers selling into regulated firms. It includes advising banks, insurers, payments and fintech clients on a range of matters and transactions, including complex, high-value technology and outsourcing arrangements that underpin regulated financial services operations.
You will be expected to run matters day-to-day with a high degree of autonomy, coordinating across teams (including working with regulatory, data protection, IP and disputes colleagues) and managing external advisers where needed. You will support partners in shaping advice that is commercial, practical and risk-aware. You will help develop junior lawyers through supervision, delegation and feedback.
You will be working closely with our FS regulatory team, but you will be expected to have a good grounding in relevant financial services regulation, including, for example, UK rules and guidance on outsourcing and third-party arrangements, operational resilience and critical third parties, and the EU Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA).
While financial services will be your strong focus, you will also have the opportunity to help on broader technology transactions across sectors.
Importantly, we are not just looking for someone to deliver the work, but someone who will be motivated to drive forward the business and our growth in this area. You will contribute to business and strategic development and client relationship activity, including pitching, thought leadership and training.
The role will suit an ambitious Senior Associate who combines technical excellence in technology and outsourcing contracting with a strong understanding of how regulated firms buy, manage and govern critical third-party services and enjoys and wants to excel at business development and building out the practice as part of a strong team.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction) with substantial experience in technology, outsourcing and commercial contracts, ideally including financial services clients (typically around 6 years' PQE or equivalent relevant experience)
- Delivers legal and commercial solutions and establishes collaborative working relationships with clients and colleagues to provide an outstanding client experience
- Supports the team to manage the client experience, develops trusted relationships and interacts with clients confidently to achieve the best outcome for the client
- Committed to business development to further grow their network and the practice
- Works efficiently and commercially and understands the importance of financial hygiene
- Ability to build internal relationships and understand the expertise across the firm so to help deliver an excellent client service.
- Having a commercial, committed and proactive approach, including responding in a timely manner to meet clients' needs and deadlines.
- Committed to being part of a supportive, inclusive and collaborative firm culture.
