Skills
The role
Working within the Estates and Facilities Management team, the Porter Messenger team is responsible for the sorting and delivery of internal and external deliveries, supporting the Museum's growing event schedule, driving passengers and items between sites and other destinations, external cleaning and office moves. Key responsibilities involve maintaining the Museum's fleet of vehicles including two minibuses, two vans and a golf buggy; delivering Museum equipment, sundries and retail stock between the museums and outstations within the Royal Borough of Greenwich; delivery of refreshments and equipment for events and setting up and taking down for a wide variety of Museum events, including weekend and evening work. Further duties include assisting in the moving and assembling of office furniture, general cleaning of outside spaces such as maintaining signage, jet washing and deep cleaning as required, and ensuring external areas are suitably safe for staff and patrons with sweeping and gritting.
The successful applicant will need to be a strong team player with effective communication and customer care skills. A full clean UK driving license, held for a minimum of 2 years, is essential, as well as a reasonable level of physical fitness, as transporting goods will require heavy lifting. The role holder will also need to have a flexible approach to their working hours including weekends, especially during the busy summer period. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
This is a full time, permanent role in Band 8 - Museum Assistants. The post holder will be required to work 35 hours per week. These hours are typically 8am-4pm Monday to Sunday, but the nature of the work means that flexibility is required.
Salary: £27,040 per annum
