The role

Ready to take the lead on infrastructure that brings new developments to life? Join our Bristol team as a Principal Infrastructure Engineer and put your practical highways expertise at the heart of residential and commercial projects. This is a role for a well-rounded development engineer who enjoys turning complex challenges into buildable solutions.

What you'll do

Take ownership of small to medium-sized highway schemes, from Section 278 off-site improvements and Section 38 adoptable roads to access junctions and associated civil infrastructure. You'll work directly with developers, local authorities and multidisciplinary colleagues-combining hands-on design with technical leadership and helping junior engineers develop their skills.

What You Will Be Doing

Lead hands-on highway and civil design, from junctions and active travel improvements to site layouts, levels and drainage interfaces.
Drive Section 278 and Section 38 technical approvals, working closely with local highway authorities.
Produce and review buildable designs, coordinating utilities, asset protection and diversions.
Own project delivery, budgets and client relationships, contribute to fee proposals and mentor junior colleagues.
What We Are Looking For
6+ years' post-graduate experience in UK private sector development consultancy, with practical Section 278 and Section 38 design expertise.
Confidence using AutoCAD, Civil 3D or Site3D and vehicle tracking software, plus knowledge of MfS, DMRB where applicable, and local highway standards.
A good understanding of highway and site drainage, utilities, asset protection and diversions; SuDS knowledge is a strong advantage.
A practical, collaborative approach, with the communication skills to advise clients and negotiate technical approvals.
A BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and a full UK driving licence. CEng/IEng with ICE or CIHT is welcome; equivalent demonstrable experience is equally valued.
