About the Role

We are recruiting for 5 Waste and Cleansing HGV Drivers to join Nottingham City Council's dedicated Blitz Team, working a permanent Monday to Friday, 2:00pm to 10:00pm shift pattern. The Blitz Team plays a vital role in maintaining a clean and safe city by responding to environmental issues across Nottingham, with a primary focus on the removal of fly-tipping from council-owned land. The team also undertakes a wide range of street cleansing activities, including litter clearance, environmental maintenance and supporting other frontline services where operational needs require. Working as part of a flexible and responsive team, you will help deliver high-quality environmental services that improve Nottingham's neighbourhoods and public spaces. The role requires the safe operation of vehicles, equipment and technology, while working collaboratively to provide an efficient, customer-focused service across the city.

• A full UK driving licence (Category C licence and Driver CPC qualification are essential if recruiting to HGV roles).

• Experience of working in waste management, street cleansing, environmental services, local authority operations or a similar frontline service environment.

• Experience of carrying out vehicle inspections, completing daily safety checks and operating vehicles and equipment safely.

• Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, safe working practices, manual handling and risk assessment within an operational environment.

• Knowledge of road safety requirements and the challenges of working in a public-facing environment.

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team, using initiative to prioritise tasks and respond to changing service demands.

• Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with residents, businesses and colleagues.

• The ability to undertake physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions, including lifting, carrying and prolonged periods of walking and physical activity.

• Experience of using handheld devices, mobile technology or digital systems to record work activities and report issues.
