The role
What you'll be doing
In this role, you'll collaborate with colleagues across the Society to help shape Nationwide's strategic direction, developing clear and actionable plans that support delivery across the business.
A key part of the role is creating and developing sub-strategies that set direction and define the actions needed in a range of different business contexts. Using recognised strategic frameworks and robust analytical approaches, you'll produce high-quality strategies that provide clarity for teams across the Society.
The role includes ownership of the formation and communication of strategy, including key strategy documents and supporting analyses.
Working closely with Nationwide's senior leaders, you'll provide insights, perspectives and recommendations on strategic topics, supporting their development and thinking on matters that are important to the Society's future direction.
You'll build strong and effective relationships across the organisation, bringing together specialist knowledge, resources and leadership to support strategy development projects. Drawing on external market, industry, strategy and sector insights, you'll help ensure Nationwide's strategies are informed by the latest thinking and perspectives.
About you
As a minimum requirement, we'll need you to have:
- Significant experience developing business, functional or corporate strategies, using recognised strategic frameworks and approaches to shape direction and define actionable plans
- Experience of working in a strategy team or environment such as a consultancy practice
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to advise, challenge and shape thinking among senior leaders and stakeholders
- Experience navigating large and complex organisations, including gaining access to key stakeholders and successfully managing relationships
- Experience leading discussions and workshops with diverse stakeholders, building alignment and bringing together different viewpoints to develop strategic outcomes
- A proactive and self-motivated approach, with high personal standards and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes
- Outstanding written skills including the ability to write insightful and engaging content that encompasses clear, compelling communications
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret financial, customer, market and competitor information, drawing clear insights and recommendations that support strategic decision making
- Experience working within a financial services environment
Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:
Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers' shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we're honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes
You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
