The role

What you'll be doing

As a senior member of the team, you'll act as a trusted subject matter expert, supporting investigators while managing your own complex caseload. You'll play a key role in protecting the Society and its customers from economic crime by reviewing investigations and customer interactions, ensuring decisions are aligned with internal policies, procedures and risk appetite. You'll also contribute to team initiatives and projects, helping to drive continuous improvement across the function.

Alongside your investigation responsibilities, you'll provide technical guidance, deliver training and share your expertise to help colleagues develop their skills and confidence. Through regular coaching, quality reviews and constructive feedback, you'll support investigators in achieving high standards and delivering consistent outcomes. You'll maintain and enhance operational procedures, identify opportunities for improvement, and help embed best practice across the team.

Success in this role requires strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a collaborative approach. You'll work closely with peers and stakeholders, providing support wherever it's needed while ensuring your own objectives are delivered. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys developing others, influencing positive change, and making a meaningful impact in the fight against economic crime.

About you

No two days are the same in this role, so we're looking for a collaborative and adaptable team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You'll bring strong investigative skills, sound judgement, and a passion for tackling financial crime, while also supporting and developing colleagues through coaching, training and knowledge sharing.

As a minimum requirement, you must have:

  • Recent experience working in an Economic Crime investigation team within AML Operations

  • Proven presentation, influencing and training skills, including experience onboarding new starters and providing ongoing coaching

  • Strong investigative experience, including data analysis, problem solving and risk-based decision making

  • A comprehensive understanding of Financial Crime legislation, regulation, industry guidance and the standards expected by the Financial Conduct Authority

  • Experience making risk-sensitive decisions while maintaining objectivity and independence

  • Experience working within Financial Crime, Risk, Compliance or Audit in the financial services industry

  • A strong understanding of financial services products, services, delivery channels, core systems and operational processes

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers' shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we're honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
