The role

What you'll be doing

The Payments and Exceptions Team plays a critical role in the end-to-end payments process for heritage Virgin Money customers, ensuring that manual CHAPS and Faster Payment instructions are authorised, quality checked, verified, and processed accurately and efficiently within agreed service levels. The team is responsible for delivering a right-first-time service while liaising with customers and key stakeholders to resolve queries and support successful payment processing. In addition, the role involves creating and maintaining standard operating procedures to ensure they remain aligned with current processes and activities, while consistently meeting and exceeding quality, performance, and productivity targets in a fast-paced operational environment.

About you

As a minimum in this role you will need:

  • A strong ability to deliver accurate work when processing customer payments.
  • The ability to take on responsibility and be accountable when dealing with payment tasks.
  • Bold decision making and critical thinking, this is required when dealing with payment queries, and rapid responses are required.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills - you'll be adapting to new processes and will have to communicate clearly to customers on various channels.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to ensure critical deadlines are met. All customer payments have service level timescales which must be adhered to.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work positively with internal and external stakeholders

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers' shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we're honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
