The role

GENERAL ASSISTANT | METRO ROD

General Assistant
Metro Rod Norwich
Tharston
Permanent, full time
Salary £22,578 - £26,436 (age dependant) per annum plus benefits

Some people want a desk job...and some people would rather be out there getting stuck into the jobs that keep businesses, homes and communities running.

That's more our thing.

At Metro Rod, we deal with the drainage problems nobody wants to deal with.

Blockages. Waste. Flooding. Emergencies. The messy stuff.

And we're very good at it.

Right now, we're looking for a General Drainage Assistant to join our business.

THE JOB

We love the jobs others hate and you'll be right there with us, getting stuck in!

Working alongside our Engineers, you'll help clean, clear, repair and maintain our customers' drains. Expect hands-on work, plenty of variety and the satisfaction of turning someone's "oh no!" into "all sorted".

It's about being good with people, too. You'll keep customers reassured, stay in touch with the Metro Rod Support Centre and help make every job a positive experience. And whatever the day throws at you, you'll work safely and make sure the job's done properly.

THE PERSON

You're someone who'd rather roll up their sleeves than watch from the sidelines. Practical, reliable and happy to get stuck in, you won't mind a bit of muck if it means getting the job sorted. You'll bring a can-do attitude, a willingness to learn and a good sense of humour - because in drainage, no two days are quite the same!

You'll be a great teammate who's friendly with customers, takes pride in their work and knows when to ask for a hand. Most importantly, you'll care about doing things safely and properly and leave customers feeling glad you turned up.

The essentials?

  • Willingness to work unsociable hours
  • Physically fit
  • Happy working in all weathers!
  • Customer focus - happy and helpful all the way
  • A keen desire to start a career in drainage

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

You do the jobs other people don't want to do. We think that deserves looking after properly.

You'll get:

  • Company pension
  • 20 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Opportunities to earn more through overtime
  • Mobile phone, uniform and PPE provided
  • Structured training and development
  • Ongoing health & safety training
  • The opportunity to develop specialist drainage skills with one of the UK's best-known drainage businesses

WHY METRO ROD?

We've been keeping drains and plumbing flowing for more than 40 years, trusted by some of the biggest names in the UK, including Aldi, McDonald's, Wetherspoons and Mitie.

But a business like ours is only as good as the people doing the work.

People who know their stuff. Turn up when it matters. And aren't afraid to get stuck in.

We work hard, back our people and give them the support to build their skills and take their careers further.

Metro Rod is part of the Waste & Water Services Division of Franchise Brands, alongside Metro Plumb, Willow Pumps and Filta. Together, we provide a one-stop shop for all drainage and plumbing services across the UK.

The jobs aren't always pretty. The people who do them are brilliant.

THE BEST PEOPLE COME FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE

At Metro Rod, we're interested in what you can bring to the job. We're an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified people, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

Think you're right for the job? We want to hear from you.
