The role

Our client is seeking a Head of Technical Assurance to provide senior technical leadership across distribution and transmission assets, including LV, HV and EHV electricity networks, electric vehicle charging and Net Zero infrastructure. This permanent role will lead technical strategy, asset management, engineering standards and risk-based assurance to ensure assets are safe, operable, resilient and fit for long-term performance.

What you'll do

  • Act as the senior technical authority and final approver for complex, novel or high-risk network and asset designs
  • Define acceptable risk thresholds across network design, asset adoption, EV integration and operational decisions
  • Own and continuously improve LV, HV, EHV and EV infrastructure engineering standards in line with ENA and UK requirements
  • Develop and oversee a risk-based technical assurance framework, including review, sampling and audit priorities
  • Monitor recurring defects and systemic design issues, ensuring operational feedback informs improved standards and design changes
  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary engineering team, establishing competency frameworks, training standards and career pathways
  • Build effective relationships with ICPs, major developers, delivery partners and senior stakeholders, providing technical input on complex projects
  • Advise leadership on engineering risk, cost and delivery trade-offs, investment decisions and emerging solutions such as EV hubs and flexibility services

Job Requirements

  • Extensive experience in asset management and technical assurance across LV and HV distribution networks
  • Strong knowledge of protection, earthing and electricity network system design
  • Understanding of EHV distribution networks and EV charging technologies, including their impact on network capacity and performance
  • Deep understanding of ENA standards, IDNO operating models and Ofgem expectations
  • Proven ability to make risk-based decisions under uncertainty and balance safety, cost, quality and speed
  • Experience managing or developing engineering teams, including setting standards, upskilling colleagues and driving consistency
  • Credibility when engaging with ICPs, senior leaders and external delivery partners, with the ability to challenge constructively
  • Experience implementing process and system improvements to support organisational growth and operational efficiency

What Our Client Offers

  • The opportunity to influence the technical strategy of a growing infrastructure and asset management function
  • Exposure to complex electricity network, EV charging and Net Zero infrastructure projects
  • The opportunity to lead a high-performing, scalable technical capability
  • A supportive environment focused on professional development, inclusion and continuous improvement

If you are an experienced technical assurance and asset management leader ready to shape the future of electricity distribution, transmission and low-carbon infrastructure, apply now.
