The role
At M&S, we're transforming how we use data, technology and customer insight to drive growth. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Digital & Technology Finance team and partner some of the most innovative and fast-growing areas of the business, including Data & AI, Sparks, Loyalty and Financial Services.
As Finance Manager, you'll work closely with senior leaders to provide commercial challenge, strategic insight and financial leadership across a portfolio of high-profile investments and transformation programmes. Whether supporting AI innovation, enhancing customer loyalty or driving digital growth, you'll play a key role in helping M&S make confident, value-driven decisions that shape our future.
What you'll do
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Partner the Data & AI and Customer (Loyalty & Financial Services) leadership teams, acting as a trusted advisor and providing financial insight, commercial challenge and strategic support that enables informed decision-making and delivery of long-term business goals.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and planning activities across your functions, ensuring stakeholders have clear visibility of performance, risks, opportunities and investment priorities while driving accountability for financial outcomes.
- Evaluate and challenge investment proposals, business cases and transformation initiatives, ensuring robust financial assumptions, clear benefit realisation plans and strong returns on investment from significant strategic spend.
- Deliver insightful reporting and analysis for senior stakeholders, translating complex financial and operational data into clear recommendations that improve performance, influence decision-making and support future growth.
- Drive effective governance, financial control and risk management across major programmes, proactively identifying issues, influencing outcomes and ensuring investments deliver measurable value for M&S.
How you'll work
To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.
Your skills and experience will include
- A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong experience in commercial finance, business partnering or strategic investment support within a large, fast-paced organisation.
- An exceptional relationship builder who can influence, challenge and support senior stakeholders, developing credibility through proactive partnership, strong communication skills and commercial insight.
- Commercially minded and highly analytical, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends and opportunities, and translate findings into practical recommendations that drive business performance.
- Comfortable operating in a constantly evolving environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously while remaining organised, resilient and focused on delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Experience supporting technology, digital, data, customer, loyalty, financial services or transformation functions would be advantageous, alongside a genuine curiosity for innovation and the future of retail.
