The role

Cloud Finops Consultant

What you'll do

A Global Organisation requires a Contract Cloud Finops Consultant to be responsible for optimising and assessing existing Azure and AWS environments, identifying cost saving opportunities and implementing improvements across cloud infrastructure, platform architecture, FinOps and governance. Develop a unified multi-cloud architecture and standardised engineering practices, while working with technical and business stakeholders to communicate recommendations, track savings and deliver agreed improvements.

  • Review Azure and AWS environments across production and non-production, establishing a clear baseline of cloud usage and expenditure. Identify and remove redundant resources, recommend opportunities to rightsize compute, databases and storage, and implement agreed cost-saving measures.
  • Assess existing cloud environments against the Well Architected Framework, identifying improvements across reliability, security, performance and operational efficiency. Design a target-state architecture for a unified multi-cloud platform, supported by high-level designs and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
  • Develop standardised architecture patterns and tagging strategies across Azure and AWS, alongside policy-as-code guardrails and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules to improve consistency, automation and governance.
  • Develop dashboards to track cloud spend, resource consumption and platform health, implementing budgets and anomaly alerts. Review reserved instance and savings plan options to identify opportunities for further cost optimisation.
  • Review cloud commercial agreements, including Microsoft and AWS pricing, partner arrangements and reseller margins. Establish cost allocation models with business stakeholders and develop governance processes to track, manage and report on savings.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations in clear, business friendly language to internal stakeholders and external suppliers. Own delivery of agreed architecture improvements, contribute to the future roadmap and transition plan, and ensure a structured handover with supporting documentation and knowledge transfer.
