The role

A safe pair of hands for our COO

There's nothing unique about the tech we all use. What makes Intercity special is our people, and that's exactly why this role matters. Our COO needs someone they can hand the keys to. Someone who takes full ownership of our estate, our security and our new flagship HQ, and just gets on with it.

If you've run a serious commercial estate before, know Health & Safety inside out, and want a role where your judgement is trusted, we'd like to talk to you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a comprehensive Facilities, Maintenance, Security and Health & Safety service across the Intercity and Wider estate, including regular visits to our sites

  • Ensure compliance and certification are maintained across all relevant areas of maintenance, security and H&S legislation

  • Lead our site strategy and forward development roadmap, with an eye for cost savings and economies of scale across the wider property portfolio

  • Lead the transformation of our flagship HQ into a showcase for our business, culture, technology and security

  • Manage the Facilities and Security budgets, continually reviewing and finding ways to add value, backed by a solid grasp of M&E and maintenance costings so we know we're paying the right rate

  • Coordinate with our insurance broker when policies come up for renewal, making sure we get the best cover at the best price

  • Develop a security plan and rota that keeps our buildings running safely, whatever the operational demands

  • Manage the Birmingham Data Centre and our company vehicle fleet

  • Manage contractors and in-house colleagues delivering maintenance, remediation and small works, including the smaller jobs that fall outside the service charge but genuinely improve how our people experience our buildings

  • Ensure every contractor holds the required permits and competencies, and works to proper risk assessments and safe systems of work

  • Build relationships with our buildings management agents, and take the lead on lease renewals and new tenancies at a headline level, working alongside our lawyers when they fall due

  • Act as the point of escalation, including occasional call outs in and out of hours

Experience and Skills
  • Degree level education or equivalent relevant experience

  • At least 5 years managing facilities for commercial office space at a senior level

  • Experience transforming a multi floor site with a serious footprint

  • Solid working knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental standards

  • NEBOSH qualified, or working towards it

  • A track record of managing, selecting and negotiating with contractors, with a good enough handle on M&E and maintenance costs to know a fair market rate when you see one

  • Experience with security management, including manned guarding, CCTV, access control and fire protection

  • Any exposure to a data centre environment would be a bonus

  • The right to work in the UK

  • A genuinely good communicator, comfortable making decisions under pressure and building strong relationships across the business

What we offer
  • 38 days holiday (including bank holidays)

  • Annual pay reviews

  • Holiday buy scheme

  • All‑company bonus scheme

  • Death in service cover

  • Employee assistance programme

  • Company pension

  • Active social calendar

  • A strong focus on developing our people through structured learning, funded certifications and real career progression
