About Home Office

In their own words
About the company & team
The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.
The Public Safety Group's role is to keep the public safe by cutting crime, disrupting the highest harm criminals, protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that our police service is as efficient and effective as it can be in delivering front line public services. We work with our partners in other government departments, local government and the voluntary sector to develop and implement policy, provide funding, and deliver legislation.
The first duty of Government is to protect the public. Since 1782, the Home Office has spearheaded work to keep the country safe from those who seek to do it harm; in doing so, we make a vital contribution to HM Government's plan for a stronger, fairer, outward-looking and united Britain.
The Home Office covers three systems: Homeland Security, Public Safety and Borders, and Immigration and Citizenship. These systems work collaboratively to deliver our cross-cutting priorities, whilst providing increasingly efficient and secure services for the public.
These are challenging areas that can rapidly change in the global environment we work in - this makes us one of the most exciting and stimulating government departments in which to work.
The Home Office is leading a pan departmental, cross government programme to deliver the new Emergency Services Network (ESN) critical communications system. This will replace the current Airwave service used by the emergency services in Great Britain. The strategic aim of the Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP) is to deliver a much better voice and data service to emergency services replacing the reliable but limited and ageing Airwave system.
