The role

Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of Engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Digital Wellbeing's mission is to empower everyone to build intentional, healthy relationships with technology.

Mobile devices are central to modern life, connecting us to information, loved ones, and essential services. However, as digital experiences become more immersive, users face growing issues around digital distraction, cognitive overload, and compulsive engagement. Finding balance and staying present in daily life has become one of the defining consumer needs of our time.

Android is Google's mobile operating system powering more than 3 billion devices worldwide. Android is about bringing computing to everyone in the world. We believe computing is a super power for good, enabling access to information, economic opportunity, productivity, connectivity between friends and family and more. We think everyone in the world should have access to the best computing has to offer. We provide the platform for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and developers to build compelling computing devices (smartphones, tablets, TVs, wearables, etc) that run the best apps/services for everyone in the world.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the Digital Wellbeing engineering team, own the technical strategy and execution, and establish an excellent team culture.
  • Adopt a cross-functional leadership role. Own a critical global issue impacting the lives of 1B+ users around the world. Obsess over what's best for our users and drive the mission forward.
  • Architect and deliver AI solutions to our hardest Digital Wellbeing problems.
  • Ensure that the team, codebase, and processes are set up to make the best possible use of the technology as it advances.
  • Partner with global partners across functions and across Android teams. Digital Wellbeing under the spotlight and a meaningful part of your role will be helping to manage internal stakeholders.
