The role

AV.com is looking for a commercially minded AV specialist with a genuine passion for audio visual products and projects to build a large and varied product portfolio for homes and small commercial premises.

Our ambition is to make AV.com a destination where customers can confidently research, specify and purchase AV systems for their projects. These could range from wireless multiroom audio and ceiling speakers in a home to background music in a restaurant, sound systems for fitness classes, or projectors and screens for a bar.

You will lead the development and commercial performance of these categories, building the right range and ensuring customers can easily find products, understand their options and select complete, compatible systems.

Leading a small team, you will combine practical AV knowledge, commercial judgement and a keen eye for detail. You will take pride in making our product content best in class, using clear written information, engaging video and intuitive website navigation to deliver an excellent online buying experience.

What you'll do

  • Develop and deliver a growth strategy for home and small commercial AV, identifying opportunities and prioritising category development.
  • Build a large and varied product portfolio with meaningful choice across applications, technical requirements and budgets.
  • Own agreed sales, gross profit and margin targets, using performance data to guide range, pricing and promotional decisions.
  • Build strong relationships with manufacturers and distributors, negotiating competitive terms and securing training, technical resources and marketing support.
  • Work with purchasing and stock colleagues to manage availability, stock investment, product launches and lifecycle changes.
  • Assess new products and suppliers for customer appeal, technical suitability, reliability, support and commercial potential.
  • Develop the range across wireless multiroom speakers, streaming amplifiers, music streamers, ceiling and wall speakers, outdoor audio, commercial amplification, zoning and control, home cinema, projectors, screens, mounting hardware, cabling and accessories.
  • Serve both domestic projects and small commercial settings, including bars, restaurants, retail premises, studios and fitness spaces.
  • Identify gaps and proactively source products, brands and complementary accessories that strengthen the offering.
  • Combine breadth of choice with a coherent range structure, making it clear where each product fits and why a customer might choose it.
  • Develop complete system packages, bundles and worked examples for common projects, including the components and accessories customers need.
  • Help customers understand when they can specify a straightforward system themselves and when specialist design or installation advice is appropriate.
  • Build a compelling offering across wireless multiroom audio, streaming platforms and connected home audio.
  • Explain the differences between audio ecosystems, including compatibility, connectivity, control, expansion options and practical limitations.
  • Help customers choose between standalone wireless speakers, installed speakers with streaming amplification, or a combination of both.
  • Show how music, TV sound, home cinema and outdoor audio can work together across different rooms and zones.
  • Keep the range and supporting guidance current as products, platforms and features evolve.
  • Own the category shopping experience, ensuring the portfolio is logically structured, clearly categorised and easy to navigate.
  • Work with ecommerce colleagues to develop intuitive menus, category pages, filters and on-site search.
  • Help customers find suitable products by product type, application, room, budget and system requirements.
  • Ensure product names, specifications and attributes are accurate and consistent, supporting effective search, filtering and comparison.
  • Create clear shopping journeys for projects such as whole-home wireless audio, kitchen ceiling speakers, restaurant background music and home cinema projection.
  • Connect products with relevant buying guides, videos, compatible components, accessories and complete system packages.
  • Use customer enquiries, search behaviour and sales data to identify where customers struggle and improve product discovery and conversion.
  • Set and uphold a best-in-class standard for product content, taking ownership of its accuracy, completeness, consistency and usefulness.
  • Apply a keen eye for detail to descriptions, specifications, images, diagrams, compatibility information, accessories and category placement.
  • Go beyond manufacturer descriptions to explain practical benefits, differences between products, suitable applications and installation considerations.
  • Develop buying guides, comparisons, FAQs and system diagrams that answer real customer questions in plain English.
  • Help customers understand issues such as speaker quantities, amplifier selection, zoning, wireless connectivity and projector and screen suitability.
  • Establish content standards and review processes, coaching the team to identify omissions, resolve inconsistencies and improve quality.
  • Develop a programme of engaging product demonstrations, comparisons, buying guides, setup tutorials and project walkthroughs.
  • Ensure videos explain meaningful differences and benefits, demonstrate practical applications and help customers make informed buying decisions.
  • Either present confidently on camera yourself or brief, manage and develop a presenter or content creator who can.
  • Lead topic selection, product selection, briefing, scripting and technical review, working with internal colleagues or external production partners.
  • Maintain high standards of technical accuracy and presentation.
  • Integrate video into product pages, category pages and buying guides, coordinating wider distribution with marketing colleagues.
  • Use customer feedback and content performance to prioritise topics and improve the programme.
  • Lead and develop a small team, setting clear priorities and high standards for commercial delivery, technical accuracy and customer communication.
  • Coordinate activity across buying, ecommerce, content, marketing and customer service.
  • Build the team’s product knowledge and enthusiasm through training, demonstrations and supplier engagement.
  • Equip customer-facing colleagues to explain the range and recognise common specification and compatibility issues.
  • Use customer enquiries, returns and reviews to identify improvements to products, packages and supporting information.

Personal qualities

  • A genuine passion for AV products and the projects they make possible.
  • A keen eye for detail and a desire to make product content best in class.
  • Curiosity about new technologies and enthusiasm for demonstrating their practical benefits.
  • Pride in accurate, thorough and clearly presented work, with the persistence to follow through on the finer details.
  • An entrepreneurial approach to building a large and varied portfolio, balanced with commercial discipline.
  • The ability to inspire a small team and work constructively with colleagues across the business.
  • A customer-focused mindset: always considering what someone needs to know to choose the right product or system.

We welcome candidates from the commercial AV installation and distribution world who want to apply their expertise to a growing online retail business. We are equally interested in specialist retail and category professionals with strong technical knowledge and a passion for helping customers create successful AV systems.

What success will look like
During your first year, you will have:

  • Established a clear category strategy and prioritised development plan.
  • Expanded and strengthened the portfolio across home and small commercial AV.
  • Built productive supplier relationships and improved the commercial performance of your categories.
  • Made priority categories easier to navigate, search, filter and compare.
  • Raised the quality and consistency of product information and buying guidance.
  • Introduced useful system packages and examples for common customer projects.
  • Established a consistent programme of high-quality video content.
  • Developed a knowledgeable, effective team with clear ownership and standards.
