About the role
As a Production & Stores Assistant at Galloway Hydros, you'll support the Operations team with the safe and reliable running of our hydro-electric generating plant. This is a varied, practical role where you'll carry out routine plant operations, inspections, testing and preventative maintenance, while also taking ownership of day-to-day stores activities, including deliveries, stock control, purchasing and audits.
You'll be responsible for
Operating, inspecting and testing hydro plant, associated equipment and emergency systems in line with operational, maintenance and safety procedures.
· Inspecting stations and remote sites, recording operating data, reporting faults and supporting investigations into plant defects and operational issues.
· Running the site stores function, including managing deliveries and collections, monitoring stock, obtaining quotes, purchasing items and completing stock checks and audits.
· Maintaining high housekeeping standards across power stations, grounds and remote sites, and carrying out minor building, grounds and improvement work.
· Supporting mechanical, electrical and civil teams with planned, routine and emergency work, as well as supervising contractors and visitors when required.
Who we're looking for
You'll bring hands-on experience from an industrial environment, ideally gained in an engineering, construction or technical role. You'll be practical, safety-focused and comfortable balancing operational tasks with accurate stores administration.
To be successful in this role you'll need to have -
· Hands-on experience in an industrial, engineering, construction or technical environment.
· Good computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate records and follow established processes.
· Experience of stores operations and stock control would be an advantage.
· The ability to work safely at height, in confined spaces, near water, outdoors in all weather conditions and, at times, alone.
· A full UK driving licence.
· You'll need to live, or be prepared to relocate, within a 30-mile radius or 45-minute drive of the main site and be able to participate in standby, weekend and call-out rotas.
