We believe that looking after our people is just as important as looking after our guests. As part of the Coaching Inn Group, you'll enjoy:
As General Manager, you'll take overall responsibility for the successful operation of The George, leading the team, driving commercial performance and ensuring every guest receives an exceptional experience.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands that great hospitality starts with great people. You'll be visible, energetic and passionate about creating an environment where your team can thrive and guests feel genuinely welcomed.
You'll have responsibility for the hotel's day-to-day operation across accommodation, food and beverage, guest experience, people development, financial performance and compliance, working closely with the wider Coaching Inn Group team.
We're looking for an experienced hotel or hospitality leader who can combine commercial acumen with genuine warmth and personality.
About you
You'll be an accomplished hospitality professional with proven
experience in a senior management or General Manager role, ideally within a
hotel, coaching inn or premium hospitality environment.
A natural leader - someone who inspires people and leads from the front.
Commercially minded - confident managing budgets, KPIs, revenue and profitability.
Guest focused - passionate about delivering memorable experiences and exceptional service.
People orientated - committed to developing your team and creating a culture where people genuinely enjoy coming to work.
Hands-on and energetic - comfortable being visible across the hotel and getting involved wherever needed.
Authentic - someone who understands that great hospitality is about genuine connections, not simply processes.
Most importantly, you'll have the personality, ambition and passion to make The George an outstanding place to stay, dine, work and visit.
The George Hotel is a truly special place. Dating back to 1495, this beautiful historic coaching inn sits opposite the magnificent Dorchester Abbey in the picturesque Oxfordshire village of Dorchester-on-Thames.
With its gabled timber façade, oak beams, roaring fires and characterful galleried courtyard, The George beautifully combines centuries of history with elegant accommodation, seasonal modern British dining and warm, heartfelt hospitality.
Now, we're looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead this unique hotel and take its next chapter to even greater heights.
Founded in 1996 by Kevin Charity, the Coaching Inn Group began as a family-run business with an ambition to breathe new life into Britain's historic inns and hotels.
Today, the Group operates 43 unique properties across the UK, each celebrating its own heritage while providing the modern comforts today's guests expect.
At the heart of everything we do is our ethos: "Hospitality from the Heart." Our teams are treated as family, our communities as partners and our guests as old friends.
Our achievements include being recognised as UK's Best Accommodation Operator at the 2025 Publican Awards, alongside Which? recognition and our position among the UK's Top Employers.
