Additional information

Are you a consulting professional with strong GIS expertise who wants to help clients solve complex challenges and deliver better outcomes on projects around the world?

You will join us as a Geospatial Consultant within our Geospatial and Digital Twins team. You will combine GIS knowledge with broad consulting skills to understand client needs, shape practical services and solutions, and coordinate their successful delivery.

We work with a wide range of clients, countries and project types, from large-scale master planning and infrastructure programmes to focused digital advisory assignments. This gives our team opportunities to work across strategy, stakeholder engagement, service design, project delivery and the practical application of GIS.

This is a permanent opportunity, but we are also open to considering candidates who wish to work on a contract basis (inside IR35).

Key Duties

  • Work with clients and project teams to understand business challenges, define requirements and identify where geospatial services can add value.
  • Shape and deliver GIS strategies, service roadmaps, data governance approaches and practical implementation plans.
  • Manage geospatial workstreams on multidisciplinary projects, coordinating scope, programme, budget, quality, risks and resources.
  • Translate between client, technical and project stakeholders, presenting clear recommendations and communicating complex spatial concepts in an accessible way.
  • Oversee the development of fit-for-purpose mapping, spatial analysis, data management, web GIS and digital twin solutions, drawing on specialist colleagues where required.
  • Support bids and business development by developing scopes, methodologies, fee estimates, delivery plans and compelling client propositions.
  • Contribute to the continued development of our geospatial services, standards, templates and training, sharing good practice across Buro Happold.

Your skills and experience

  • Experience delivering GIS or geospatial advisory services in a consultancy, client organisation or multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Strong consulting skills, including problem definition, requirements gathering, stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and development of clear recommendations.
  • A sound understanding of how GIS supports planning, design, asset management, operations and decision-making across the built environment and infrastructure sectors.
  • Practical experience with common GIS platforms such as ArcGIS and/or QGIS, with the ability to guide technical delivery and assess the quality of outputs.
  • Understanding of spatial data management, governance, analysis, visualisation and integration with related systems such as CAD, BIM, enterprise data platforms and digital twins.
  • Strong project management and commercial awareness, including experience managing scope, programme, budget, risks and multidisciplinary contributors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders and explain technical subjects to non-specialists.
  • Experience contributing to proposals, client presentations and the development of new services or opportunities.
  • A collaborative, adaptable and proactive approach, with the judgement to bring in specialist technical expertise when needed.

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in GIS, geography, planning, engineering, data, the built environment or a related discipline. Professional accreditation and experience in consultancy or client-facing delivery would be advantageous.

A place for everyone

Buro Happold values an individual's flexible approaches to working patterns as an important part of how you work and achieve balance. We welcome applications from those who are seeking flexibility in their careers.

Our exceptional portfolio of projects is the result of the diversity of thought, identities, backgrounds, and experiences that shape us. Appreciating each other’s differences is key, we want employees to feel they don’t have to mask elements of their identity to thrive.

We are working to change the lack of representation of marginalised groups in the built environment. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who feels they are underrepresented in the industry. We have much to learn from one another. Embracing differences allows us to develop the most innovative and elegant solutions.

Please let us know if there are any adjustments we could make to the application process to make it easier and more comfortable for you. Contact recruitment@burohappold.com so we can work with you to support you throughout your application.
