The role

Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering

Location: Elgin, Moray, Scotland

Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong civil engineering background looking to play a key role in one of Scotland’s most significant infrastructure programmes?

Balfour Beatty is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Regional Scotland business, based in Elgin, supporting the delivery of civil engineering works on the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a major infrastructure programme supporting the expansion and upgrade of Scotland’s electricity transmission network, helping to connect renewable energy projects and strengthen the country's energy infrastructure.

You'll be responsible for the commercial management of civils packages, with a particular focus on access tracks, road construction, earthworks, drainage and associated groundworks across the North and North East of Scotland.

Working alongside our operational and engineering teams, you'll play an important role in ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, commercially successfully and to the highest standards.

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to take the next step.
  • A strong civil engineering background, particularly in earthworks, groundworks, road construction, drainage or infrastructure projects.
  • A good working knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial contract administration.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, procurement, valuations and final accounts.
  • Strong cost management, forecasting and commercial reporting skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with site-based delivery teams and manage multiple work packages.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • A valid CSCS card.

What you'll do

  • Managing the commercial delivery of access track construction, earthworks, drainage and associated civil engineering packages.
  • Preparing and managing project budgets, cost forecasts, valuations and cost-to-complete reports.
  • Identifying, assessing and managing variations, compensation events and commercial risks.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, tender evaluations, negotiations and subcontract accounts.
  • Administering contracts in accordance with NEC requirements and maintaining accurate commercial records.
  • Working closely with site teams, engineers and project managers to monitor progress and manage project costs.
  • Preparing applications for payment, monitoring cash flow and supporting effective financial reporting.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve commercial performance and deliver value across the programme.
  • Ensuring compliance with Balfour Beatty's commercial governance, safety and quality standards.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of the commercial and contractual management of civil engineering works across the ASTI Tracks programme.
