The role

About the role

At Balfour Beatty, we're delivering some of the UK's most exciting and complex construction projects, and our Regional Build business in London is continuing to grow.

We're looking for an experienced Pre-Construction Manager with an engineering background and strong technical skills to join our growing team and play a key role in developing projects from early opportunity through to successful delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys being involved early, solving complex challenges and working collaboratively to turn ambitious proposals into deliverable construction solutions.

As a Pre-Construction Manager, you'll take a lead role in the development of projects across our London Regional Build portfolio, working closely with our work winning, design, commercial and operational teams.

You'll be responsible for bringing your technical and construction expertise into the pre-construction process, helping us develop robust methodologies, programmes and solutions that provide value for our clients and set our projects up for successful delivery.

What you'll be doing

As a Pre-Construction Manager you will:

  • Leading bid and preconstruction activities across a varied portfolio of regional build projects

  • Developing winning strategies and managing tender submissions

  • Overseeing cost planning, risk management, and value engineering

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners

  • Coordinating internal teams including estimating, design, planning, and commercial functions

  • Ensuring seamless handover from preconstruction to delivery teams.

Who we're looking for

You will have the following:

  • Proven experience in a preconstruction or bid leadership role within main contracting

  • Strong commercial awareness and technical understanding of building projects

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

  • A collaborative mindset with the confidence to lead and influence

  • A track record of securing profitable work within the London or South East market.
