Introduction to the role

Are you passionate about helping people use AI to work smarter, faster and more effectively? Do you enjoy turning complex business challenges into practical solutions that colleagues can use every day?

As AI Activation Specialist within AstraZeneca's Innovation & Business Excellence (IBEX) Directorate, you will be a hands-on AI builder, coach and change agent. You will make AI simple, safe and scalable by translating business needs and complex ways of working into practical prompts, knowledge assets, automations and agentic workflows.

Acting as an internal AI personal trainer, you will build colleague confidence through AI clinics, training programmes and practical coaching. You will help teams move from experimentation to consistent and effective use of approved AI tools, while ensuring appropriate governance, evaluation, human oversight and responsible AI principles are embedded in everything we do.

This role is an opportunity to create meaningful impact across the organisation. Rather than solving individual use cases in isolation, you will develop reusable assets, playbooks, prompt patterns and AI Hub content that enable teams to adopt proven approaches at scale. By identifying opportunities within the Activity Map, prototyping solutions and codifying successful practices, you will reduce duplication, limit shadow AI and accelerate the adoption of governed AI capabilities.

Success in this role will be demonstrated through increased AI confidence and adoption, measurable improvements in productivity and process performance, reliable and high-quality AI outputs, and the growth of a community of colleagues able to apply AI safely and effectively in their everyday work.

Accountabilities

Drive adoption and scale of existing AI tools and services

You will develop and maintain a high-quality, reusable library of prompts for key business activities, including pre-approved prompt templates, grounding approaches and evaluation frameworks that support safe and reliable use of AI. You will run tool training programmes, codify best practice and continuously update the AI Hub with new tools, resources and leading use cases.

Working closely with business teams, you will identify successful AI applications and translate them into repeatable solutions that can be shared across teams. You will also support AI champions and users to scale solutions and embed effective ways of working.

Your impact will be measured through the reuse of AI prompts and components, adoption and engagement with AI Hub content, reductions in time-to-first-value for AI use cases, and the proportion of priority workflows supported by reusable AI assets.

Enable colleagues to unlock best-in-class use of AI and agents

You will run regular AI clinics to identify opportunities to simplify workflows and solve real business problems. Acting as a trusted coach and AI personal trainer, you will support colleagues in applying approved AI tools to their day-to-day roles.

You will design and deliver structured training programmes and immersion sessions for different user groups, helping colleagues build practical capability and confidence. You will also support teams in rapidly prototyping and deploying AI-enabled workflows, providing guidance on safe, compliant and effective use in line with relevant governance frameworks.

Success will be reflected in the number and reach of AI clinics, post-training application of AI in everyday workflows, user satisfaction and confidence, and growth in the number of AI-enabled workflows across teams.

Enable agentic AI in everyday workflows

You will design and implement agentic AI workflows that streamline business processes and reduce manual effort. By identifying and prioritising AI opportunities within the Activity Map, you will focus effort on initiatives that can deliver measurable business value.

Using low-code/no-code platforms and automation tools, you will build and deploy AI-enabled solutions for common use cases. You will ensure that solutions are scalable, repeatable and aligned with enterprise platforms and governance requirements, while monitoring and optimising prompt effectiveness, output quality and overall performance.

You will track impact through the proportion of workflows augmented or automated by AI, improvements in process cycle times and productivity, relevant business performance measures, and the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of deployed solutions.

Strengthen AI proficiency across the organisation

You will ensure that all AI prompts and solutions adhere to approved governance, safety and compliance frameworks. You will help standardise approaches to prompt design, evaluation and lifecycle management, supporting the development of reliable, high-quality AI outputs.

A key part of your role will be to avoid duplication and shadow AI by promoting centralised, governed solutions. You will partner with global and regional colleagues to align on best practice and shared solutions, and track and report on AI usage, performance and value delivered across the organisation.

Your contribution will be measured through compliance with AI governance standards, reductions in fragmented or duplicate AI solutions, the quality and reliability of AI outputs, and the quality of reporting on AI usage, value and impact.

You will collaborate closely with the Head of Technology Transformation, Product Owner AI, Technology colleagues, UK Head Office and field-based users, business teams adopting AI-enabled workflows, AI champions and users, and global and regional teams supporting shared AI solutions. You may also work with approved external technology or delivery partners where relevant.
