The role

Spark imagination. Ignite potential.

Talocher School are seeking a compassionate, resilient and enthusiastic teacher to join our team, working with pupils with Additional Learning Needs. The successful candidate will be teaching and supporting our young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs.

About the school:

Talocher School is a specialist school for girls and boys aged 7 to 19 who have Additional Learning Needs (ALN). We currently have registration for 60 students. The school provides a warm, welcoming and flexible environment for young people who are unable to attend mainstream education because of their needs.

What you'll be doing:

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who believes that every child deserves to feel safe, successful and understood, and who is passionate about making a lasting difference to the lives of young people.

You'll enrich the lives of our pupils by:
  • Building strong, trusting and positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Placing pupil wellbeing at the centre of your practice.
  • Being a reflective and resilient practitioner who can respond positively to challenge.
  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that support all learners to achieve success.
  • Creating safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom environments.
  • Demonstrating commitment to trauma-informed and relationship-based practice.
  • Having high aspirations for every learner and determination to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a committed and supportive team.

What you'll bring:

This role requires a practitioner who understands that positive relationships and emotional wellbeing are the foundations of successful learning and who is committed to helping every pupil feel safe, valued and ready to thrive.

To achieve this, you'll be:
  • A dynamic and engaging teacher who can create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment where pupils are encouraged to take risks, develop confidence and celebrate success.
  • Able to plan and deliver high-quality learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of learners and enable all pupils to make meaningful progress from their individual starting points.
  • Someone who recognises the impact that adversity and trauma can have on learning, behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Knowledgeable and understanding of trauma-informed approaches, and committed to supporting pupils with empathy, consistency and high expectations.
  • Ideally, a Primary-trained teacher (although this is not essential), who is especially passionate about delivering a broad, creative and engaging curriculum that supports both academic achievement and personal development.

Our benefits include:

  • Exclusive access to reward and discount scheme
  • Blue light Discounts
  • Comprehensive induction
  • Commitment to your ongoing training and career progression
  • Teacher pension scheme
  • Paid for enhanced DBS
  • Wellbeing support
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Teacher's payscale and much more!
