The role

We're looking for an experienced and collaborative senior risk leader to join us as Head of Technology, Cyber and Resilience Risk.

This is a high-profile and meaningful leadership role within our Group Risk function, where you'll have the opportunity to shape how we understand, manage and respond to some of the most important risks facing our organisation.

As a trusted adviser to the head of Digital Risk, EUI leadership, senior executives and relevant Board committees, you'll provide thoughtful, independent insight to help ensure our most significant risks are well understood, effectively managed and transparently reported.

This role reports into the Digital Risk team and you'll work closely with senior leaders and colleagues across Risk, Technology, Cyber and Operational Resilience, bringing together different perspectives and building strong, trusted relationships. Through clear insight, constructive challenge and open collaboration, you'll help us make well-informed decisions that support our customers, colleagues and long-term ambitions.

Alongside your technical knowledge, how you lead and support others will be just as important. You'll have the opportunity to influence significant strategic, technology and investment decisions, while creating an environment where a talented specialist risk team can grow, contribute and do their best work.

What you'll do

  • Providing independent second-line oversight across technology, cyber and operational resilience risk.
  • Offering clear and balanced risk opinions on material exposures, control weaknesses, emerging threats and management responses.
  • Building trusted relationships with the Head of Digital Risk, EUI leadership, senior technology and cyber leaders, executives and Board committees.
  • Making complex technical risks accessible by translating them into clear business implications, recommendations and decisions.
  • Working collaboratively to ensure technology, cyber and resilience considerations are embedded early in strategic, investment and transformation decisions.
  • Providing thoughtful and constructive challenge on technology strategy, architecture, cloud, cyber security, business continuity, disaster recovery and operational resilience.
  • Bringing together Group and EUI risk perspectives to identify shared exposures, concentrations and dependencies.
  • Overseeing the organisation's ability to prevent, withstand, respond to and recover from significant disruption.
  • Providing independent insight across important business services, impact tolerances, scenario testing, third-party resilience, crisis management and recovery arrangements.
  • Supporting and leading regulatory engagement on material technology, cyber and operational resilience matters.
  • Setting a clear strategic direction and quality expectations for the Technology, Cyber and Resilience Risk team.
  • Leading, supporting and developing a specialist team, creating an inclusive environment where colleagues feel empowered to share their expertise and provide effective challenge.

Why join us?

This is a rare opportunity to shape the organisation's approach to some of its most important and rapidly evolving risks. You will have the visibility and influence to support significant decisions, strengthen resilience and help protect our customers, colleagues and long-term strategic ambitions.

If you are a forward-thinking risk leader who combines technical credibility with commercial judgement, clear communication and the confidence to challenge at the highest level, we would love to hear from you.

Essential skills and Experience

  • You'll be an experienced senior leader with strong knowledge of technology risk, cyber risk and/or operational resilience, ideally gained within a complex and highly regulated organisation.
  • Experience working with executive teams, Boards and Board Risk Committees.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to provide constructive challenge and raise concerns appropriately.
  • Strong knowledge of technology, cyber security and operational resilience risk management.
  • Experience assessing risk exposure against appetite and evaluating control environments.
  • A good understanding of cloud, technology resilience, cyber security, business continuity, disaster recovery and third-party resilience.
  • Experience of important business services, impact tolerances, scenario testing and resilience planning.
  • The ability to identify wider or systemic risks and communicate the issues that need executive or Board attention.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to connect technical risk to customer outcomes, strategic delivery, investment decisions and business performance.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with an ability to make complex information clear, accessible and decision-focused.
  • A track record of supporting, motivating and developing specialist teams and creating an environment where people can thrive.
  • Experience engaging collaboratively with regulators, Internal Audit and other assurance functions.
  • A calm, thoughtful and pragmatic approach to leadership, including when navigating complex or high-pressure situations.
