A bit about the role
0 to 19 Torbay is part of the Best Start in Life Family Hubs. We are a partnership between Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, and Action for Children.
Best Start in Life Family Hubs are a new way of bringing together all the support a family may need and provides a welcoming space and a 'front door' for families from pregnancy through to young people turning 19 (or 25 if they experience SEND)
As a Children's Services Worker, this is an exciting opportunity for anybody who enjoys new challenges, has a sense of humour and enjoys working within a role that is constantly developing but has the potential to make a real difference to the lives of young children and their families.
The Children's Services Worker will work as part of the integrated 0 to 19 Torbay team to deliver family support within Torbay communities.
The role will involve delivering high-quality child-development activities in the Family Hubs and community. You will also be working 1:1 alongside families within the Family Hubs. You will need to ensure that all support is evidence based and informed so some experience in delivering sessions is an advantage.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
- Being a good communicator and able to make effective relationships with children, young people and their parents and carers.
- Facilitating sessions that are fun, engaging, and inclusive.
- Being flexible about where and when you work.
- Keeping accurate records of work carried out.
Let's talk about you
- A relevant level 3 qualification in Childcare, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to travel.
- Energy, enthusiasm, and experience of engaging with children and young people individually, in groups and online
Why Action for Children?
Every child should have a loving home, food, warmth, the chance to grow and learn - the support to cope with life's challenges. But too many children don't. By bringing your passion and unique skills and experience, you'll help us change that where it really matters.
We've been driven by love to take action for children for over 150 years, giving them the protection and practical help they need. A lot's changed since 1869. But what children really need, hasn't. So as long as children need us, we'll be here.

Our Commitment to Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism
At Action for Children, we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued, and able to thrive. We know that racism and discrimination create barriers, and we are taking active steps to challenge these inequalities in our organisation and in the communities we serve.
We strongly welcome applications from people who are Black, Asian, or from other racialised and ethnically marginalised communities, as well as disabled people, who are currently under-represented in our workforce. We are committed to removing barriers in our recruitment processes and ensuring fair access to opportunities.
We also encourage applications from men, who are under-represented in our Children's Services roles. We recognise that people hold multiple identities, and we value the richness this brings to our team
